Airline Employee of the Century

Reward: Airline Employee of the Century

Difficulty: Advanced

Estimated Time: 30 minutes

This reward is for landing safely in the Limited Options mission. You'll start at 35,000 feet with your copilot chatting away when the #1 engine surges then fails. As soon as this happens, you need to turn on the APU and switch your power source from the battery to the APU (using the overhead console). Otherwise the battery would eventually run out of power and you'd be left without instruments and other electric flight controls. (I'm not sure how the APU continues to run after you've run out of fuel, but in this case be thankful it does.) Your copilot thinks it would be a good idea to descend down to 10,000 feet, but if you plan on landing safely, you'll need every foot above the water you can get. Hold 35,000 feet as long as you can until the #2 engine fails.

At this point you'll be given the option of flying to two airports. Hanimaadhoo is 50 miles to the north with a 4,000 foot runway, and Male Intl is 100 miles to the south with a 10,500 foot runway. If you want to try landing a 737 on a 4,000 foot runway be my guest (maybe if you try collapsing the landing gear... ), but Male's runway is nice and long with plenty of room for error. And you should be able to make it with a few extra thousand feet to play with at the end.

Once you select Male, turn south and follow the mission compass (or put in the Male VOR) and begin your 1,000 foot per minute descent. This rate should give you 140-150 knots. Your copilot tells you maintain 190 knots, but doing so will reduce your range by about 30 miles. I reached Male with 6,000 feet to spare 10 miles out. Continue descending down to the runway and use any extra speed to cushion your landing. Come to a stop anywhere on the runway to complete the mission.
